Quickstart Demo

Demo mode lets you run a simulated training session with predefined users - ideal for trying ShellRoom without any setup.

Try the participant view

▶ Login with harry / lumos.

You will see a normal shell running on your machine. This is where participants would work during an actual training.

The menu at the bottom of the browser window shows the commands available to participants via keyboard shortcuts:

• F1 Get Help: Let the trainers know that you request help.
• F2 Second Pane: Open a second pane (window), splitting the existing one in two halves.
• F3 Chat: Opens a chat pane on the right side of the screen, allowing you to discuss issues with the trainers inline.

▶ To better experience the trainer functions with multiple participants, open the same Webterm URL in a second browser tab and login as ron / lumos.

Try the trainer view

▶ Open the same URL in another browser tab, then log in as lupin / lumos.

You see the trainer overview: a shell to the left, the participant activty to the right and the menu at the bottom. You might want to try the following trainer commands:

• Ctrl + B Browse: Enter Browse Mode to quickly cycle through participants using the Cursor Up/Down keys.
• Ctrl + S Search: Type in a username (shown in the menu bar). Press Enter to attach to the participant’s terminal. You can now access all participant commands, for example F3 Chat, and use this to help participants.
• F8 Presenter View: Invoke this in the trainer overview (Ctrl + O) for sharing your screen during the training.

Available users

Demo mode sets the following users:

• harry, ron, neville and luna as participant role
• lupin and snape as trainer role

The password for all users is lumos.
