Basic usage for participants

  • F1 Get Help: Let the trainers know that you request help. Once available, a trainer will join your screen indicated by a big green banner (“Please stop typing”) at the bottom of the screen. The trainer can see the same terminal and provides help using the terminal or the chat window. Press F1 again to toggle off.
  • F2 Second Pane: Open a second pane (window), splitting the existing one in two halves. If a second pane is already open, F2 switches to the other open pane.
  • F3 Chat: Opens a chat pane on the right side of the screen, allowing you to talk with trainers about issues right next to the terminal. If already open, F3 switches to the chat pane.
  • F4 Close: Closes the active pane (where the cursor is), which can be a terminal or the Chat pane.
  • F9 …: Toggles extended keyboard options mode, allowing you to resize panes and access additional features.

Also helpful:

  • Copy and paste: Select any text with your mouse to automatically copy it to the clipboard. Then use the standard system shortcut to paste (Ctrl + V on Windows or Cmd + V on Mac).
  • Text size: Use your browser’s Zoom function to increase or decrease the font size. Typically, you can press Ctrl + / Ctrl - (Windows) or Cmd + / Cmd - (Mac).
  • Open Files: Run open [FILE] to display a link to the file. Use a middle-click (press the mouse wheel) to open the link in a new browser window.
  • Resize panes: Drag the pane separators with the mouse to resize panes.
